E.J. Manuel threw for one touchdown and ran for another as Florida State opened a 28-point halftime lead and coasted to a 38-7 victory over Boston College on Thursday night.
With their fourth win in a row, the Seminoles (6-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) qualified for a bowl game for an NCAA-best 30th consecutive year.
Boston College (2-7, 1-5), which had gone to a bowl game for 12 straight years, was guaranteed its first losing season since 1998 and was eliminated from bowl contention.
Manuel completed 12 of 16 passes for 180 yards and ran 16 times for 37 yards. Devonta Freeman ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns, and Nick O'Leary caught three passes for 87 yards.
Manuel did most of the damage in a dominant first half, when Florida State scored on three consecutive possessions to blow the game open. With 4:51 to play in the second quarter, the Seminoles led 28-0; they had outgained Boston College 214 yards to 16 and held the Eagles without a first down.
Luke Kuechly had 20 tackles ? 12 solo ? for Boston College, his 31st straight game with 10 or more.
Other scores
G.J. Kinne threw for a go-ahead touchdown and Kevin Fitzpatrick added three field goals as Tulsa hung on to beat Central Florida, 24-17, at Orlando, Fla. It was the Golden Hurricane's first victory this season after trailing at halftime and came despite settling for field goals on three trips inside the red zone. Central Florida (4-4, 2-2 Conference USA) lost at home for the first time this season, and Tulsa (5-3, 5-0) remained unbeaten in the league.
Zac Dysert passed for 215 yards and two touchdowns and Justin Semmes ran for 100 yards and two more scores to help Miami (Ohio) rout Akron, 35-3, at Oxford, Ohio. Miami (4-5, 3-2 Mid-American) moved into a tie with Ohio for the East Division lead. Akron fell to 1-8, 0-5. Dysert completed 12 of 19 passes, throwing a 22-yard touchdown pass to Andy Cruse and a 52-yarder to Nick Harwell. Dysert also had a one-yard TD run. Harwell had four catches for 117 yards.
Etc.
The Idaho State Board of Education has given Boise State its consent to join the Big East Conference. The board voted 7-1 Thursday to give university President Bob Kustra authority to move Boise State out of the Mountain West Conference and into the Big East. Kustra says being a Big East member means more revenue for athletics and puts the Broncos in a conference that automatically qualifies to send a team to the Bowl Championship Series.
The Florida State Attorney's Office has decided not to charge Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley and former Alabama defensive back Reggie Myles for their roles in an altercation last month. Myles filed a sworn complaint alleging that Easley attacked him outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium after Alabama beat Florida, 38-10, on Oct. 1.
