The truth is that football is a huge business in college, and winning is crucial to staying on the job. Amazing isn't it, college football requires results, while politicians can fail and fail and fail and still get reelected, but that is another story.
So when one goes to the Rose Bowl and the seats are empty because the team isn't doing well the costs to the school are huge in lost revenue.
At SC, the same level of expectations exists, but tempered because of the post season ban which will soon be lifted
At other schools, where the competition for entertainment isn't so severe, a coach might get more of a break.
